Retirement, illness: Which causes which? MarketWatch (blog) There’s a school of thought that says that if you want to stay healthy during your retirement years, you’re better off not retiring at all.
This is slightly misleading. The numbers are biased because of the number of people who are forced into retirement because they are ill. Continuing working, particularly at an intense pace, does not necessarily solve the problem of declining health during retirement.
However, there is some data to suggest that those who retire healthy are more likely to experience both mental and physical illness if they do not make plans for activities that are personally meaningful and make a contribution to a community. http://www.scoop.it/t/retirement-planning-by-kairos-advisers-llc/p/4003295585/retirement-illness-which-causes-which-marketwatch-blog?hash=c5be172a-e8ef-4c28-9364-08b216544f74
